Beauty Grew All Around

Society constantly places so many boundaries us as human beings. Women have been taught to keep their mouth shut in public, men have always been told that they are the earners in the household, children are not allowed in adult conversation. If someone enjoys school they are labeled a nerd, if someone weighs more than what society tells us is “skinny”… we call them “fat.”

But, not only does society place these labels as boundaries, it also creates boundaries to keep in human dreams. If you want to be a doctor but don’t get the best grades in school, society tells you that you can’t be a doctor. If you want to be a model but aren’t tall enough or thin enough, society burns your dreams to a crisp and stomps out the flame.

A short, but beautiful video was made by the lovelies over at Regency Beauty to capture the social barriers placed on someone who wants to become a beautician. Check out the awesome video here:

I enjoy this video. The colors are cute, the music is light. But, the message in the video is so much stronger than the video seems to let on. I truly appreciate everything my hairdresser does for me. They are people who have a passion, for what I would call an art (because God knows that if we all started cutting our own hair all hell would break loose). Someone with a gift should never be shot down. Whether that be by parents, teachers, or friends.

A dream is a dream, no matter how big or small. Thank your beautician today. Or, support cosmetologists everywhere by checking this out!

Thank you to Regency Beauty for sponsoring today’s post.

Reasons Why I Love “Orange is the New Black”

During exam week, I began watching Orange is the New Black. Probably not my greatest choice, considering I had exams and stuff, but I did anyway. After about 5 minutes of the show, I was hooked!

There are so many reasons to love the show. And I believe it truly does live up to the hype. Here are some reasons that I love watching Orange is the New Black:

Strong Female Lead Characters: When you first meet some of the women in the show, especially Piper, you might think that she’s needy and always depending on her significant other (whether that be her fiance or her ex girlfriend). But when you watch more of the show, you come to learn that all of the women leads in the show are completely strong and independent.

Unique Love Stories: Long distance relationships are one thing, but how about a prison guard and an inmate, an inmate and a writer, or even inmate love triangles? The juicy love drama on the show has watchers craving more.

Realistic Views on Suffering: Just when you think Piper can’t get any more whiney, the show shifts gears to show life & death and how much sometimes the smallest problems can seem so much worse than they are when put into perspective.

Friendship: This show is all about trust. Between relationships, marriages, and friendships. The show gives a true sense of friendship, and a realistic view of trust. Once broken, you have to work to gain it back.
